Alhoewel PokerStars in Italië poker aanbiedt vanaf een .it domein, is hetniet allemaal koek en ei in pastaland. De Italiaanse belastingdienst hijgtPokerStars in de nek. De pokerroom wordt beschuldigd van belastingontduikingdoor inkomsten weg te sluizen naar Malta en Isle of Man. Druk maken ze zichniet echt bij PokerStars.
Het nieuws dook op in de Malta Independent, dat er melding van maakte datPokerStars wordt beschuldigd van fraude en belastingontduiking over €300miljoen aan inkomsten in een periode van vijf jaar lopend tot 2014. De krant schrijft: “The allegations come following an investigation, dubbed operation‘All-In’, which analysed the real value of transactions linked to HalfordsMedia Italy, the group’s subsidiary Italian branch.According to theItalian authorities, Halfords media hid taxable income by decreasing the valueof services rendered to its parent company, PokerStars. In so doing, it managedto move the taxable income PokerStars earned in Italy to Malta and the Isle ofMan.”
De Italianenzijn nu op jacht naar hun aandeel van die €300 miljoen aan inkomsten, dievolgens de Italianen zijn verdiend in Italië. Ze geloven dat PokerStars bewusten onrechtmatig inkomen hebben verschoven naar landen met een wat gematigderbelastingklimaat. Chef bedrijfscommunicatie bij PokerStars Eric Hollreiserdoet het af als een muggenscheetje.
“PokerStars has been working with Italian tax authorities since theylaunched an audit several years ago. We haveoperated in compliance with the applicable local tax regulations and have paid€120 million over the period covered by the audit. Like many other globale-commerce companies, we vigorously dispute the stance of the tax authorityregarding local establishment. The audit is ongoing and we hope to resolve theissue in our favour soon.”
Wordt dusweer vervolgd, maar voorlopig zetten wij ons geld op PokerStars. En danbedoelen we in deze kwestie natuurlijk, niet dat we daadwerkelijk nu geld opPokerStars aan het zetten zijn. Dat doen we zondag pas natuurlijk, voor denegende verjaardag van de Sunday Million.
