Het nieuwste lid van Team PokerStars is Barcelona-voetballer Neymar. De Braziliaan werd vanmiddag gepresenteerd door PokerStars in Barcelona. Het nieuws werd live bekendgemaakt in de EPT livestream door EPT president Edgar Stuchly.
Deden er eerst nog geruchten de ronde dat Cristiano Ronaldo wel eens ingelijfd zou kunnen worden, werd vandaag zomaar een PokerStars badge op Neymar geplakt. Niet heel gek op zich, aangezien Neymar al meerdere malen op sociale media op de foto stond aan de pokertafel. Daarnaast was er natuurlijk het verhaal dat de toen geblesseerde Neymar de afgang op het WK tegen Duitsland niet meer kon aanzien en maar een potje is gaan pokeren na de zevende Duitse goal. Onlangs nog vierde hij de overwinning van Barcelona op Eibar met een potje poker met vrienden:
Het was dus al een hobby van de voetballer en nu houdt hij er ook nog eens een ongetwijfeld royaal zakcentje aan over.

Amaya Voorzitter en CEO David Baazov ziet het vastleggen van Neymar als een investering in de toekomst van poker wereldwijd: “Neymar Jr is a young and extremely charismatic megastar who loves interacting with fans on social media, is comfortable on camera and loves the game of poker,” sprak Baazov. “And as a superstar with one of the world’s most famous football clubs and football nations, his appeal is global. This partnership is a great opportunity to market the game of poker across the globe and attract new fans.”
Neymar zelf zei het volgende: “Growing up and playing football everyday has made me a competitive person. When I’m not playing football, playing poker and competing against my teammates on the road or in home games with friends is one of my favourite things to do. To be a successful poker player, you require many of the same skills needed to be a successful footballer – mental strength is important; resilience, patience, composure and focus. I love the challenge, whether it’s on the football pitch or at the poker table.”
