Jamie Gold lijkt ‘m aardig te chillen. Hij is betrokken bij ‘Island Breeze Casino’, een casino op een boot in Florida en er moeten meer ships volgen. In Nottingham kijken ze ondertussen al vooruit naar november, dan strijkt de WPT daar neer. Concurrentie voor de MCOP!

Jamie Gold won in 2006 het WSOP Main Event en is volgens velen de grootste vis die dat kunstje ooit flikte. Zal Gold verder een rotzorg zijn, die pakte namelijk de grootste eerste prijs ooit in dat toernooi á $12 miljoen. Bijna acht jaar later vroeg Bluff aan Gold hoe het nu met hem is en hoe hij terugkijkt op de WSOP van 2006.
Momenteel houdt Gold zich veel bezig met het Island Breeze Casino: “It’s the first of many planned full Las Vegas style casinos on the water. We are a public company (stock symbol IBII), and we opened our first here in Palm Beach, Florida. We have a full sportsbook, real craps and roulette, and blackjack and a poker room with an indoor/outdoor lounge deck. It’s a lot of fun, and people love it. I’m excited to host major charity events there. We’ve just started planning things now that we have been open for a month and are working smoothly.”
Dat loopt allemaal op rolletjes. Overigens legt Gold nog steeds bijna iedere avond een kaartje, maar dan op een lekker laagdrempelig niveau. Het hedendaagse poker kan Gold dan ook weinig bekoren: “I find that the level of play in poker nowadays is so much more advanced, so at the same time yes, it’s so much less fun and interesting to watch. You never know, a great character or two may come back in a big way someday to bring more excitement to the game. I used to love to watch poker, now it’s really hard to find an interesting moment. I still love playing the game, though, at any level. It’s actually much more fun at lower stakes – no pressure and more social, the way it was when I was younger – for me anyway.”

WPT Dusk Till Dawn
De World Poker Tour strijkt in november neer in Nottingham, na ongetwijfeld veel lobbywerk van eigenaar Rob Yong. Het pokerfestival gaat niet minder dan 17 dagen duren en er staat twee toernooien op de planning met een gegarandeerde prijzenpot van één miljoen Engelse ponden. Het staat allemaal te gebeuren van 7 t/m 23 november, helaas wel tijdens de Master Classics of Poker in Amsterdam. Dat betekent dus concurrentie voor onze mooiste toernooireeks.
Het exacte schema is nog niet bekend, maar de grote aandacht zal uitgaan naar zes toernooien:
1. WPT Warm Up
2. WPT National £500 buy-in, £1M GTD including 50 x £3K Main Event Seats
3. WPT High Roller
4. WPT Pot Limit Omaha
5. WPT Main Event £3000 buy-in, £1M GTD
6. WPT 6-Max
“Because of the range of different buy-ins, I expect this to be the biggest UK poker festival ever – we will be putting the same effort into this as we did for the ISPT, but with over double the lead time to qualify players,” zei Yong. Wij van PokerCity hopen in ieder geval dat veel internationale toppers toch de voorkeur geven aan Amsterdam in november! Wellicht dat het HC ook aan een €1 miljoen GTD durft?
