De grote finale van seizoen 7 van de European Poker Tour vindt plaats in het Casino Gran Madrid van 7 t/m 12 mei. Na zes jaar Monte Carlo is het tijd voor iets anders. Madrid is een enorme toeristische trekpleister en nu gastheer van het mooiste Europese pokertoernooi van het jaar.
De afsluiter van het seizoen van de EPT kon altijd al op veel belangstelling rekenen. Madrid is met 3 miljoen inwoners de grootste stad van Spanje en één van de grootste van Europa. De stad staat bekend om het levendige uitgaanscircuit, prachtige musea en vele historische gebouwen. Gran Casino Madrid ligt iets buiten de stad, maar de afstand is prima te overbruggen per auto, trein of taxi. Gran Casino Madrid was al eens gastheer van de Unibet Open.

Het ‘Grand Final Festival’ kent het gebruikelijke €10.000+600 buy-in Main Event. Rob Hollink won het toernooi in het allereerste seizoen van de EPT in 2005. Pieter de Korver stal in seizoen 5 de show in 2009. Honderden online qualifiers zullen Madrid gaan bezoeken net als veel professioneel pokeraars, gelukszoekers en rijke zakenmannen. Het highroller event €25.000 belooft weer een waar spektakel te worden. Vorig seizoen nog kwam Paul Berende tot een 5de plek in dat toernooi.
Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu was ook enthousiast. Hij voorziet aardig wat Spaans dood geld: “I’m excited about the move to Madrid and I’m looking forward to seeing what the capital has to offer. Poker is booming in Spain so you can expect a decent number of local players to attend and ensure a juicy prize pool.”
Casino Gran Madrid

This decision confirms the Torrelodones Casino as one of the leading centres of poker in Europe. Economisch gewin
Ook de burgemeester van Torrelodones, het deel van Madrid waar het Gan Casino staat, zag louter voordelen. Carlos Galbeño: “The fact that the Casino Gran Madrid Torrelodones has been chosen to host the Grand Final of the seventh season of the European Poker Tour is great news for the Madrid community. However, it is especially important for our town, because not only will the event have a huge economic impact, it will also allow us to project our city as a prime tourist spot in Europe. I am sure that Torrelodones will rise to the challenge.”
PokerStars schat in dat het totale economische voordeel van de EPT Madrid meer dan €10 miljoen kan bedragen. De helft van die inkomsten komt van spelers, bezoekers en media en de andere helft van de waarde van media aandacht, waaronder Tv-uitzendingen.
